Meet Dr. Larry Montgomery

Chiropractor Belton Dr. Larry Montgomery

Dr. Larry Montgomery

I still remember being placed on a piece of plywood in the backseat of our family car and my dad driving me to my first chiropractic appointment, even though I was just three years old!”

“I had been on medication for several days with a “crick” in my neck, so severe, that any movement made me cry out in pain! Finally, my father put me in the back seat of the old Mercury (with the plywood underneath me) and we began the 30 mile drive to the chiropractor. While that was my first visit, it was not to be my last.

A knee injury before my senior year in high school resulted in a local health professional telling me, “I don’t know what is causing that popping sound in your knee, but we could ‘open it up and see’….! That report scared me back in to a chiropractic office. I knew football and most likely my senior year of sports was over if I had the surgery. Three days later, after consulting a chiropractor, I was back out on the field, kicking field goals, and to this day, have never required knee surgery.”

A Chiropractor’s Education

After graduating from Belton High School, Dr. Montgomery enrolled in Central Texas College’s highly regarded Broadcast Journalism program, intent on becoming the next “Frank Gifford.” One day after class, Dr. Montgomery was in his chiropractor’s (Dr. Sidney Isdale of Killeen) office receiving an adjustment, when Dr. Sidney asked, “When are you going to stop messing around and enroll in Chiropractic College.” He asked that question at just the right time. Dr. Montgomery transferred to San Jacinto College in Pasadena which has a cooperative program with Texas Chiropractic College.

After persuading the admissions officer of Texas Chiropractic College to allow him to begin classes in August of 1977, Dr. Montgomery completed back to back semesters of 30 and 32 hours (while attending Texas Chiropractic College and San Jacinto College concurrently), to help him finish the normal seven year program in only five and one-half years. After graduating from TCC on May 16, 1981, Dr. Montgomery returned to Belton and worked in the Isdale Chiropractic Clinics in Killeen and Temple while awaiting licensure from the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Dr. Montgomery then opened his practice in Belton on September 21, 1981.

Dr. Montgomery subsequently completed the 300 hour post-graduate course in Orthopedic Diplomate program and Texas Chiropractic College in 1987. In the interim, Dr. Montgomery has achieved Diplomate status in the American Academy of Pain Management and the American Academy of Disability Analyst. Additionally, he is a TIRSAT certified doctor for the Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission and holds a “Master’s Certificate” in Whiplash (acceleration/deceleration) Injuries from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego. He has also completed 100 hours in Scoliosis management with the Copes Scoliosis program.
